Goat Cheese Pear Tarts

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

These goat cheese pear tarts are a great savory and sweet appetizer. The pear and the caramelized onion pair very well with the goat cheese and are one of my favorite combinations. I like to prep them and throw them in the oven right before guests show up. They are quick to bake and deliciously fluffy straight out of the oven! You can also substitute the apple butter for this delicious butternut squash butter.

Servings 15 tarts

Ingredients

  • 1 pear
  • 15 tsp apple butter
  • 1 small red onion
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 2 oz goat cheese
  • 1.5 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp chopped chives for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Thinly slice the onion. Heat up a pan with 1/2 a tablespoon of butter and add the sliced onion. Sauté it until a golden brown and cooked through. Add 1/2 tbsp of butter if needed.
  • While the onion is caramelizing, peel and mince the pear.
  • Remove the onion from the pan and add the minced pear to it with the rest of the butter. Sauté until soft and remove from heat.
  • Cut the puff pastry into the size you would like your tarts. I usually divide each puff pastry section into 5 pieces about 1 inch by 2 inches.
  • Beat the egg in a bowl and brush it onto the puff pastry.
  • Place a tsp of apple butter in the middle of the puff pastry.
  • Put a dollop of goat cheese on top.
  • Mix the onions and pear in a bowl and put them on top of the goat cheese. Placing them separately is also an option.
  • Spray a pan with cooking spray and put the squares about 1 inch apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes turning the baking pan halfway through.
  • Chop chives or green onion for garnish and enjoy!
